1797 C-1 R2 1 Above 1 VF30. Sharpness near mint state but covered with fine granularity and there is planchet erosion or a shallow void along the dentils on the left side of the obverse (possibly as struck). No verdigris and only a few small contact marks. The notable marks are a light scratch right of the second S in STATES and a pinprick over the C in CENT. Frosty olive brown and steel. Struck over a cut-down 1794 Talbot Allum & Lee Cent with New York. Strong undertype is visible on both sides including "NEW" near the rim left of the bottom of the cap. EDS, Manley state 1.0, before any die cracks or swelling. Value $2,250 - UP
