Lot 302

1795 S-76b R1 Plain Edge. PCGS graded AU-58. CAC. Lustrous steel brown and light chocolate with lighter tan in protected areas. A subtle puff of reddish brown toning from the ear up into the hair and a tiny scrape in the field left of the top of the cap are the only marks. The reverse is flawless. Mint luster covers the fields and protected areas and this cent has outstanding eye appeal. Just a hint of friction on the highest points of the hair from mint state. MDS, Breen state V. The pole is thin but still connected to the neck, and there is subtle swelling in the field before the portrait. Struck on a planchet with a slightly larger than normal diameter (29.15mm) that allows longer dentils around the obverse. Graded AU55 net AU50 in the Noyes census, his photo #61807. Our grade is AU55. The attribution and Nancy & Bryan Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 6 finer: 1 in 58+, 1 in 62, 1 in 63, 1 in 63+, 1 in 65, 1 in 66. (PCGS # 35723) Value $17,500 - UP
