Lot 292

1787 Fugio Cent Newman 12-X Rarity-3. PCGS graded MS-63 Brown. A STATES UNITED variety. Choice frosty medium brown and light chocolate. Smooth and attractive, free of any of the planchet fissures or voids that seem to plague these early coppers. Mint luster shows in protected areas, especially on the reverse. The only defects, and they are trivial, are traces of crud nestled between some of the sun rays. The legends are complete and easily readable, and the date is bold. Later die state with die cracks on both sides. Our grade is AU50. Probably from the famous Bank of New York hoard of uncirculated Fugio Cents that contained a couple hundred examples of this die combination. The Nancy & Bryan Collection provenance is noted on the PCGS label (PCGS # 883) Value $2,000 - UP
Ex Chris McCawley 2/11/2006-Nancy & Bryan Collection.
