Lot 291

1652 Massachusetts Pine Tree Shilling Noe-16 Rarity-2. PCGS graded VF-20. A Small Planchet variety. Glossy medium steel gray with lighter silvery gray on the highpoints and slightly darker gray in protected areas. The surfaces are smooth and the only notable marks are a small planchet fissure at the rim over the final S in MASATHVSETS and at the top of the opposing E in NEW (as struck). Struck slightly off center to K-3 but the legends remain on the planchet. The Pine Tree is clear while the date and denomination are bold. Scarce late die state with obvious crumbling in the left side of the tree. A decent mid-grade example of this famous early colonial issue. Weight listed as 67.0 grains on the PCGS label. The Nancy & Bryan Collection provenance is noted on the PCGS label (PCGS # 24) Value $2,500 - UP
