Lot 1574

1809, 9 over 8. PCGS graded MS-63. CAC. PQ. A glittering choice mint state coin that offers full mint bloom, clean surfaces and a full strike. The fields are pleasing and lack the usually seen small handling marks, and one has to study hard to find any hint of adjustments (located on the extreme rim edge on the dentils). The stars and curls are crisply defined, along with all the fine feather elemants of the eagle. Close study will find traces if die clashing, mostly in the upper reverse where Liberty's head can be seen outlined. As bright and fresh as the day this half eagle left the mint. The overdate feature is also clear. Only 33,875 struck. Pop 3; 31 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 8104) Value $28,000 - 30,000
