Lot 136

1810 S-284 R3. PCGS graded MS-65 Brown. CAC. Very attractive lustrous bluish steel brown and olive with faint peeps of faded mint color showing on both sides. Satiny mint frost covers this cent and the eye appeal is superb. Just a few trivial marks from perfect, and you need a good glass to see them. A dull nick on the eyelash, a few microscopic ticks on the front edge of the nose, and a puff of microscopic reddish carbon over the E in ONE are the notable marks. Nicely struck M-LDS, Breen state III, with dull die clashmarks in the field before the face. Struck slightly off center to K-7 leaving some of the dentils off the planchet, but all the devices are clear. Graded MS62 Choice and tied for CC#1 in the Noyes census, his photo #29850. Not seen by Bland. Our grade is MS62. Only 3 mint state examples are listed in the census for this variety. The attribution and Doug Bird Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; none finer. (PCGS # 36481) Value $35,000 - UP
