Lot 1204

1859. NGC graded Proof 65. Boldly struck with wonderful blue and golden smokey toning on both sides. The fields are glistening with reflectivity while the devices show elegant mint frost. Such toning comes from decades of careful storage, likely wrapped in tissue inside a small coin envelope. Clearly this coin was carefully preserved as only a handful would retain the gem grade today, and here is one of those! This is the first type as well, which is less plentiful in higher grades than the With Motto style which came about in 1866. This splendid gem, with its gorgeous toning will certainly be a treat to anyone who is lucky enough to purchase it. Only 800 struck. Pop 17; 30 finer at NGC. Value $8,500 - 9,000
