Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 115

Lot 1189

1796. Large date, small letters. B-5, BB-65, Rarity 2. PCGS graded AU-53. Light hint of tone. Quite frosty and attractive, with considerable definition of Liberty's hair curls as well as many of the breast feathers on the eagle. This is a really tough coin to find this well preserved and technically sound. Most show far more wear after just weeks in circulation. The high points of the design, Liberty's uppermost curls behind her temple and the eagle's breast feathers wore away almost as these coins left the mint! Thus finding coins with strong definition like this is quite a treat. A condition rarity that should not be overlooked. Only 79,920 struck. Pop 4; 21 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 6861) Value $12,000 - 13,000

Realized $21,600
