Lot 1059

1859-S. NGC graded AU-55. This is one of the toughest Liberty Seated dimes to find in any grade. The mintage dribbled to a halt after a mere 60,000 were struck, of course small change was still in great demand out west, where the gold rush was still underay. Hence, these early San Francisco dimes were in hard service and use for many years. How this one survived in such high grade is unknown but we're glad it did as any collector will long be proud of this prized condition rarity. The surfaces are attractive, untoned and well struck. Pop 3; 2 finer in 62. Value $5,000 - UP
