Lot 44

1818 N-9 R3 PCGS graded AU55. Lustrous medium brown and light chocolate with a splash of darker reddish chocolate toning at star 6. The only notable contact marks are a collection of ticks on the jaw and upper part of the neck. M-LDS. The center dot on the reverse is faint, nearly gone. In addition there is a triple profile on the last 2 digits in the date and on the lower curls, and doubling shows on other curls, along the back of the ear, and on the truncation (all from die shift or bounce). This is the plate coin for the die variety in John Wright's "The Cent Book." Our grade is AU50. Comes with a nice provenance that has been traced back nearly a century. Estimate Value $500 - UP
