Lot 300

1839 N-9 R2 Silly Head NGC graded MS64+ Brown, CAC Approved. Lustrous mint red mellowing to light steel brown with at least a third of the planchet showing some mint red. The only defect is a spot of fine carbon on the hair under the bun. Otherwise this is a choice cent, nearly gem. M-LDS with fine die cracks bisecting the obverse and rim cud breaks from star 5.5 to star 10. The die lines from the upper left point of star 7 are dull and weak but still visible. Our grade is MS63. The attribution and Newman provenance are noted on the special NGC label. Estimate Value $2,500 - UP
Ex Eric P. Newman Collection, Heritage Auctions 11/1/2017:15071-The Westwood Collection (includes the Newman collection envelope and lot ticket).

Realized $3,000
