1840-D. NGC graded AU-55. Tall D. A full strike in natural light greenish color gold and untoned. Scattered light handling marks are present on both sides of this early Liberty half eagle. Housed in an Old Style Holder. Of the 140 pieces estimated to have survived, this is one of the finer examples certified today. A delightful example of this sought-after early half eagle from the Dahlonega Mint. Only 22,896 struck. Pop 15; 19 finer at NGC. Estimate Value $2,500 - UP
