Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 112

Lot 1114

1859-D. PCGS graded AU-58. Struck in natural greenish color gold. Lustrous and delicately toned. This coin actually shows a sharper than typical strike on the 85 in the date, and can be identified by an old minor scrape on the D(OLLAR) up toward the wreath above. Horizontal die polish lines are noted at the center of the reverse. Scarce this nice, and most of the recorded Mint State coins are in the MS-61 to MS-62 range. Estimates of approximately 200 survivors of this issue seem about right. Only 4,952 struck. Pop 30; 31 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 7553) Estimate Value $2,500 - UP

Realized $4,080
