Antique Brass and Mahogany Lapdesk. When closed the lapdesk measures 6½" high, 20" across, and 9¾" wide; it opens to 20½". With leather desktop bordered with embossed gold gilt. Having four compartments, one with cover and one holding an inkwell. The longest compartment holds an Aikin gold fountain pen in original case. Key is not present. One can imagine the owner escaping the humidity of the East Coast, before air conditioners, by taking the train to his summer home in Pasadena and keeping up with his correspondence as the landscape slips by.
