GEORGE Vintage Original Magic ca. 1920s Stone Lithography Poster, Very Fine on Linen. Grover George was born in Zanesville, Ohio in 1887. He worked his way up from performing in small towns until his success came to the attention of Howard Thurston, the most renowned magician in the United States at the time. Thurston went ridiculously out of his way to oppress George's success with frivolous lawsuits and even renting out theaters so he had no places to perform. George then took to touring South America and other countries to great acclaim.
One of the best GEORGE magic posters printed by Otis Lithograph Co., Cleveland, Ohio "The Supreme Master of Magic" from his "Triumphant American Tour". What makes this poster so appealing is that it includes most of the elements from his other posters; Mischievous devils, the mysteries of the Great Pyramids and the exoticism of the Far East and is extremely colorful and appealing. Approximately 27 x 41" The poster was beautifully conserved on linen this year by Jaime Mendez Poster Conservation Co. in California and is now graded very fine on linen. Estimate Value $800 - UP
