Lot 879

1878-CC. PCGS graded MS-65. Nicely toned on both sides with glorious antique blue and russet shades, which are deeper near the devices and thus accent them. The fields are lighter in the more open areas. This has always been one of the key dates to this popular series, with a mere 62,000 struck. This example is certainly one of the finest known, and while tied with a few others at the gem grade level, we doubt if others could be this beautifully toned and possess so much elegant charm. If you have been looking for a really special coin to put away for a few decades, then consider this fantastic example of this prized rarity. The famed Carson City mintmark needs no introduction here, with its wild west connotations and historical importance as a major mining, and minting location. A memorable offering! Pop 5; tied for the finest examples graded at PCGS, only 1 example graded finer at NGC in 66. (PCGS # 6359) Estimate Value $40,000 - UP
