Lot 1251

1872-CC. NGC graded MS-61. Here his a fantastic condition rarity. Although this is not one of the rarest Carson City issues, it is one of the very finest seen of those that do survive. Perhaps 400 pieces exist today from the original issue. Of those, only a dozen or so can claim full mint state status, including this coin. The typical grade for this date and mint is VF to EF, even AU examples are scarce and in high demand. This is a true collector coin and one which precious few examples can match, let alone top in terms of quality. A prize for the Carson City specialist and destined for an advanced collection. Fully untoned and frosty, with scattered light handling marks expected for the grade. The color is bright yellow gold throughout. Free of any deep or detracting marks, and sharply struck. Only 26,900 struck. Pop 8; 1 finer in 62 Star. (PCGS # 8964) Estimate Value $65,000 - 70,000
