Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 110

Lot 1250

1865. NGC graded MS-65. Well struck and untoned. The surfaces are sparkling and bright, with a full strike and graced by abundant luster. This coin could hardly be imagined prior to the recovery from this unusual shipwreck which just happened to contain several fresh minted gold coins. Prior to this carefully orchestrated venture gems of Type 1 Twenties were vitually unobtainable. This particular coin is one of the finer examples that came to light after well over a century on the ocean floor. Today these lovely mint state coins are spread around to the collecting community, allowing many specialists the opportunity to own a sparkling gem coin from this historic period, which otherwise would be something only in their dreams. A welcome opportunity for the collector! Housed in a special NGC holder for SS Republic. Pop 22; 3 finer, 1 in 65 Star, 1 in 66, 1 in 66 Star. Estimate Value $50,000 - UP
From SS Republic.
