1865-S, 865 over inverted 186. NGC graded AU-55. CAC. Lightly toned on both sides. Only 16,700 struck, but this is one of approximately 75 to 100 to survive from this famous blundered obverse die. The date punch was first entered upside down, then corrected. Only a few such date blunders exist, especiallly in the gold coin series and this is one of the most famous and dramatic. Handsome surfaces and attractive for the numismatic specialist. Pop 11; 10 finer, 8 in 58, 1 in 60, 1 in 62. (PCGS # 8643) Estimate Value $18,000 - UP
