Lot 772

1919-S Mercury Dime. MS-63 Full Bands. This is a beautiful and rare mint error. The obverse is bright white, with full luster and just traces of hairlines, while the reverse is similar but has a couple of long shallow scrapes, the primary one through ICA and above DIME. As the coin was struck off center and out of the collar, the strike is very sharp, but the coin appears to be slightly out of round, as the planchet expanded during the strike unevenly. Further, the edge is partially reeded, perhaps 10 to 20 percent of the rim near the obverse side shows crisp reeding, while the balance of the edge is rounded. The scrape on the reverse may be part of the ejection process, and many off center coins have scratches of some sort or another. An exciting coin for the specialist to enjoy for many years.
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,500.
