Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 11

Lot 1198

1936 Albany Half Dollar. The coin itself grades Mint State 65, while the paper holder grades Very Fine. On the front of the paper holder someone has written "10/15/37 $2.00 each" in pretty purple ink. Inside the holder there is room for 5 coins, with the curious paper tabs which held them in place, and these sames tabs are the things that produced the unusual "tab" toning seen on several commemoratives (many in this sale in fact). The sulfer content in the paper is the active chemical which makes coins tone. This particular coin boasts golden toning on the reverse, and streaky gold on the obverse. This lot contains 1 coin and 1 holder.
Estimated Value $250-UP.

Realized $299
