Lot 68

1817 N-10 R1 VF30+. Attractive frosty steel brown and medium chocolate. Smooth and nearly flawless; a small spot of lighter toning from a shallow planchet flake in the field under star 4 and a spot of darker toning left of the O in OF are the notable marks. M-LDS. This piece is an interesting mint error. The reverse is centered on the planchet but the obverse is badly misaligned to K-6. In addition it appears that there was another planchet in the coining chamber slightly overlapping this one when it was struck. The pressure created a beveled clip affecting the 7 and star 13 but none of the reverse, which looks completely normal. Take a close look. Estimate Value $750 - UP
