Lot 1016

1837. NGC graded MS-66. Boldly struck with lovely golden toning on both sides and quite lustrous. The strike is sharp due to the pressure generated on the new steam coining press, which was finally put into service in 1836. The curls on Liberty and the eagle's feathers are all bold. An enticing type coin that was issued in only 1836 (late that year) and all of 1837. One significant change was the denomination being "50 CENTS" on the 1836 and 1837 half dollars, this being changed to "HALF DOL." in 1838-39. A condition rarity at this lofty grade level! Pop 2; 7 finer at NGC. Estimate Value $19,000 - 20,000
