Darwin, Charles -- ALS Mentioning Peas and the Linnean Society. (1809-82) Autograph letter signed "Ch. Darwin," one page, 7½ x 4½", Down Bromley Kent, Mar. 18., n.y. To an unidentified scientist: " My Dear Sir, I am very much obliged for your note of the 7th & kind permission to incorporate your facts: I have now sent a little notice to the Linnean Society. Many thanks, also for your remarks on the Peas. I send a few of the Peas, which produce the black or intensely purple pods. Pray believe me Your truly obliged Ch. Darwin." Toning on verso at vertical fold, else fine. Matted with an ANS by American philosopher and historian John Fiske (1842-1901) stating that nothing in Darwin's work is incompatible with the strictest theism, with 1881 postmark, also matted with biographical information and an evolving man and framed to an overall size of 21½ x 22¼".
