Grêtry, André Ernest Modest -- ALS Mentioning An Opera Which "Wasn't Without Merit". (1741-1813). Belgian-born composer who founded the school of French opéra-comique; he was called "the Molière of music." Autograph letter signed "Grêtry," one page, in French, 6¼ x 3¾", no place, Friday morning, no date. To M. de Virene (?) in Paris, asking for a favorable response to his letter. He refers to "an act of the opera in question which wasn't with merit." Integral address leaf in Grêtry's hand. Light soiling; boldly penned and signed. Estimate Value $300 - UP
