1803. Extra star. BD-5, High Rarity 4. NGC graded AU-55. This is an important sub variety of this particular year. Only a few dies are known to have blundered star counts, and this one is quite unusual in that the "extra" 14h star is located up atop the right most cloud. Even stranger, the star is smaller in size than the other 13 stars which are boldly impressed over and around the eagle. Why was it added? It was clearly placed there on purpose, but so far this mystery remains unsolved. Beautiful surfaces and eye appeal for this popular issue, and a desirable example of this unusual 14 star reverse coin. A hint of light golden tone. Only 15,017 struck. Pop 4; 32 finer at NGC for the variety. Estimate Value $17,000 - 18,000
