Julius Caesar. Silver Denarius (3.79 g), 40 BC. Rome. Ti. Sempronius Gracchus, quaestor designatus. S C flanking neck, wreathed head of Julius Caesar right. Reverse: TI SEMPRONIVS above, GRACCVS in exergue, Q DESIG to left, standard, legionary eagle, plow, and measuring rod. Crawford 525/4a; HCRI 327a; Sydenham 1129; RSC 47. Wonderful life-like portrait. Very Rare type - less than 50 exist. Porous planchet and three tiny digs in right obverse field not affecting portrait. Sharpness of Very Fine or better. Lightly toned. Estimate Value $2,500 - UP
