STS-27, Shuttle Atlantis, Mammoth Hinged Binder of the Flight Director, Comprehensive Mission Operations. Personal property of the Flight Director, a mammoth 3" inch hinged binder used for STS-27, Shuttle Atlantis deploying a single all-weather surveillance satellite for the US National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Flight also significant in that Atlantis' Thermal Protection System tiles sustained extensive damage during the flight from insulation which came off during lift-off. Fortunately disaster avoided; however, the crew was reportedly furious about the low level of concern. Once safely landed, over 700 tiles were damaged with one missing. Workbook has at least 25 tabbed chapters, a great number of schematics, panel designs, a number hand colored, flight rules, timelines and much more. Appears to be heavily referenced, but since printed on heavy stock or many pages sleeved, workbook remains in excellent condition and an absolutely fantastic study. Estimate Value $250 - UP
