Lot 550

Roman Bronze Squat Oinochoe with Grape Leaf Handle. Appealing Roman bronze, squat oinochoe ca. 2nd-3rd century CE. boasting a wide rim and a fancy handle terminating with a large grape leaf attached to the body. The encrusted blue-green surface patina is exceptional. As far as condition, pitcher remains stout with bending and loss to the rim, a one inch hole in the base and a moderate area of restoration opposite the handle done decades past that could have been better. Yet in spite of the issues, oinochoe is appealing and displays well. 6¾ x 7 x 7". Estimate Value $500 - UP
