Two Statesmen From New York: Alfred E. Smith and Hamilton Fish, Jr. Fish, Hamilton Jr. (1888-1991). Congressman Fish introduced legislation that provided for the return of the remains of an unknown American soldier killed in France during World War I for interment in a hallowed tomb to be constructed in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. Today known as the Tomb of the Unknowns, it is guarded 24 hours a day by the most elite sentries of the US Army. Right-profile photo inscribed and signed to Walter L. Reynolds, 14 x 11", April 2, 1935. Very fine. With a typed letter signed by Alfred E. Smith as Governor of New York, 1½ pages, on Executive Chamber letterhead, 10½ x 8", Albany, Jan. 7, 1924. To John Golden, Hudson Theatre, NYC, regarding the constitutionality of the "ticket speculator act" and informing Golden that "you could not raise the question of the State's police power in a matter of this kind."
