Panama Canal Zone Relics and Panama Pacific Exposition Relics -- Includes Badges Worn by Canal Workers, Items Made From Railroad Ties, Etc. Among the relics are six badges used by Panama Canal Commission workers, two of which are attached to railroad tiles which say "A Life For Each Tie / Panama." There are three pairs of bookends, all on wood stands. One pair from "Panama Rail Road 1853-1869"; another pair is from "Panama Railroad/Old French Rail and Lignum Vitae (Guayacan, Recina) Tie/Circa 1850-1875." The third pair has one bookend from "Original Panama Road 1849-1867," and the other from "French Rail Forged in Belgium/Panama 1865-1903."

Numerous other relics include a pack of playing cards with images of the canal being built; a tube of various colors of sand from the Canal Zone; a clock made from an original Panama railroad tie; a Society of the Chagres ashtray; and a medal commemorating the opening of the Canal to commerce. From the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition in San Francisco, which celebrated the opening of the Panama Canal, come two replicas of the Liberty Bell, a souvenir brass token, 24.5mm, with the Great Seal of the Isthmus of Panama on the reverse; and a bronze 34mm souvenir dollar/medal issued by San Diego with Uncle Sam on the obverse and an image of the S.S. Ancon, the first ship to pass through the Panama Canal, on the reverse. Estimate Value $250 - UP
