Lissim, Simon Mikhailovich -- Celebrated Ukranian/American Illustrator "Untitled" (1900-1981) Simon Mikhailovich Lissim was born in the Ukraine studied in Paris and then emigrated to the US in 1940. From 1942 on he was the Director of Artistic Studies at the New York Public Library as well as teaching at area universities. In 1956 he was Chairman of the National Selecting Committee for the Fulbright Awards in Painting, Sculpture, and Graphic Arts. Offered is a interesting work of five pieces two theater/ costume illustration divide by three panels demonstrating his incredible command of illustrated floral design in watercolor and gouache. Lissim's works are on permanent display in most major museums worldwide but here is an opportunity to acquire a piece far more modestly priced. Framed boldly in the late 1960s in New York City there appears to be his name in Cyrillic and also his date of birth and death written as a reference later. Framed to 12 x 19" under glass, the three panels are vivid and explode in colors, the two costumed sketches are as originally illustrated. As framed and matted, the entire work has great eye appeal.
