[Panama Canal] Ferdinand de Lesseps, Charles A. de Lesseps, and (George W. Goethals). Ferdinand de Lesseps, diplomat and developer of the Suez Canal (opened in 1869), but who failed to build a Panama Canal in the 1880s. The project was taken over by the United States in 1907, headed by engineer George W. Goethals, who completed the canal in 1914. Signature ("Ferd. de Lesseps") on a blank card and an autograph note unsigned on his business card from l'Académie Française et de l'Académie des Sciences, to M. Chasserian, May 8,1884. With a card signed by his son, Charles A. de Lesseps, Paris, 1886, and an unsigned business card of Charles, who served as vice president for the Suez project. Also, a large unsigned business card of George W. Goethals. Estimate Value $150 - UP
