1849 $5 Moffat & Co. NGC graded AU-53. Lightly toned. and a classic early Territorial gold half eagle. The obverse and reverse are pleasing with minor circulation marks, but a decent and sharp strike is evident. Liberty's tiara is inscribed Moffat & Co. for the maker, and the classic date of 1849 is sharp and bold. 1849 of course, is the year the "Gold Rush" really got going, several months after the original discovery of gold in 1848.
