Lot 1632

1929. PCGS graded MS-64. CAC. PQ. Popular key date. Lovely rich golden toning as is typically seen on these Indian half eagles. The strike offers full depth to the incuse devices and the surfaces nudge close to the gem grade. One of the nicer examples of this date to survive, and while not the absolute finest seen, would make a most repectible representation of this final year is issue for this type for any advanced collection.

While the recorded mintage stands at 662,000 for this particular date and mint, the truth must be told that nearly the entire batch of 662k was melted in followng years. Today less than 1,000 exist, probably around 700 distinct pieces --at most-- if all existing pieces could somehow be gathered up and counted. The majority of those known fall short of the quality offered here. Finer examples number precious few--that are even a grade point above the quality offered by this coin, and PCGS has not awarded any single example of this date any grade higher than MS65. Pop 109; 21 finer, 11 in 64+, 10 in 65. (PCGS # 8533) Estimate Value $45,000 - 50,000
