Lot 221

1925-S. NGC graded MS-65. This date and mint is considered to third rarest Buffalo nickel in gem condition, following only the 1916-D Double Die obverse and the 1918/7-D overdate issue. Consider that the 1925-S nudges out 1926-S, 1920-S and even the 1927-S rarities as the rarest gem issue to find. In top condition, the 1925-S stands stall as one of the most challenging dates to obtain. Furthermore these are nearly always poorly struck up, which results in lower grades. A well struck example is a formidable find, especially so at the gem grade level. Add to this mix some wonderful toning on both sides and you have a tremendous example that will satisfy any specialist. Pop 23; 2 finer in 66. Estimate Value $11,000 - 12,000
