This sestertius depicts the round shield (parma) and silver lance (hastae argenteae) presented to Roman knights upon their induction into the order. Although it appears to be a product of a Balkan or Thracian mint, it is related to the aurei and denarii struck at Rome which commemorate Nero's naming as Princeps Juventutis (Prince of Youth).
