Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 100

Lot 1477

1931-D. PCGS graded MS-64. CAC. PQ. A lovely example of this key date coin. Nicely toned on both sides with handsome greenish gold luster throughout. The strike is sharp as usually seen on this elusive issue. Although the mintage was limited at 106,500, precious few of these were ever released into circulation and most were swept up when gold was removed from circulation in April of 1933. Today virtually all known examples are in mint state condition, but few offer this quality and eye appeal. Considered to be the 8th rarest date of the series in all grades, and a formidable challenge to find for the specialist. Housed in an Old Green Holder and graded a generation ago. Only 100 to 150 examples estimated to have survived according to PCGS Pop Report. Pop 30; 25 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 9193) Estimate Value $80,000 - 85,000

Realized $94,000
