Lot 68

1824/2 N-5 R4 Overdate 4 over 2 PCGS graded AU58. The obverse is glossy medium brown and light chocolate with darker chocolate toning covering the area from star 8 to star 12 and the reverse is a more uniform medium reddish chocolate brown. Traces of frosty lighter tan faded down from mint color are visible in protected areas on the obverse. A small vertical nick on the jaw and a spot of crud near the dentils left of the date can help identify this cent. MDS. The overdate feature is obvious to the unaided eye and clear doubling shows on stars 12 & 13 (from die bounce). Graded VF35 and tied for finest of the confirmed examples in the Bland census. Noyes says AU50 net VF30 and tied for CC#4, his photo #35664. Our grade is VF35. The attribution and Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 64 for the variety. PCGS #36781. Estimate Value $3,000 - UP
