Lot 480

1800 S-197 R1 PCGS graded AU55. Lustrous light bluish steel brown and chocolate with delicate puffs of slightly darker olive brown on the reverse. Light bluish steel overtones cover protected areas on the obverse and a trio of tiny spots of lighter brown toning are found on the lower neck and shoulder. Satiny mint frost covers the fields on the reverse and this cent offers excellent eye appeal. The only contact mark of any significance at all is a faint diagonal hairline scratch in the field before the forehead. Nicely struck MDS, Breen state III, with tiny rust pits (raised lumps of metal) scattered in the hair, under the ribbons, and on the neck. The always-present diagonal breaks through the first 0 in the date are clear, the so-called "Q Variety." Our grade is AU50. Comes with a nice provenance. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Pop 2; 5 finer, 3 in 58, 1 in 58+, 1 in 63. Estimate Value $4,000 - UP
