Lot 331

1834 N-6 R3 Large 8, Stars, & Letters PCGS graded MS63 Brown, CAC Approved. Very attractive medium steel and chocolate brown. Satiny mint frost covers this cent and it would be flawless except for an arc of impressed dentils (small nicks) over the hair bun, and these do catch your eye. LDS with a triangular lump hanging down from the dentils above star 9. In addition there is some doubling along the back edge of the ear (from die bounce). A great example of this "Redbook" variety in spite of the small nicks. Our grade is MS60 net AU55. Noyes says MS60 net AU50 and tied for CC#7, his photo #58227. The attribution and Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 2 finer in 64 for the variety. PCGS #37045. Estimate Value $4,000 - UP
Ex Stack's-Dr. Wallace Lee, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 5/25/2003:803-Tom Reynolds-Gene Heard Collection.
