Lot 322

1830 N-6 R4 Medium Letters PCGS graded AU55. Glossy chocolate brown and olive. Satiny mint frost covers the fields and protected areas on both sides and this cent offers excellent eye appeal. The only notable mark is a small patch of crud in the field between the front edge of the coronet and star 5. M-LDS with a fine die crack from the tip of the bust into the field left of the date. This cent exhibits some of the usual strike weakness that plagues the variety. The strike is soft on the upper stars, along the top of the head, and in the lower part of the wreath, but it is better than most of the variety. Graded EF45 net VF30 by Noyes and tied for CC#12, his photo #31686. Our grade is VF35, but the surfaces and frost are consistent with a significantly higher grade. The attribution and Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 67 for the variety. PCGS #36967. Estimate Value $3,000 - UP
Ex James L. Corrado, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 2/11/2007:609-Gene Heard Collection.
