Lot 285

1808 S-278 R3 PCGS graded AU55, CAC Approved. Frosty light to medium brown with darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. Flowline luster covers the fields and protected areas and this cent offers excellent eye appeal. The notable marks are a puff of darker chocolate brown toning over the O in ONE with similar toning at TED ST. A tiny tick or planchet chip on the right top of the 0 in the date and a flat spot on the bust tip are good identifying marks, but they are barely visible under magnification. MDS, Breen state III, with a subtle depression from a die injury near the dentil tips from under the bust tip to star 4 where it fades away. A very nice cent with just a light touch of friction on the highest points of the devices. Graded EF45 net EF40 and tied for CC#19 in the Noyes census, his photo #37155. Our grade is EF45+, close to AU50. The attribution and Boka-Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 6 finer for the variety. PCGS #36460. Estimate Value $4,000 - UP
Ex Doug Bird 3/2/1996-Jon A. (Al) Boka, Heritage 9/8/2011:3024-Gene Heard Collection (Boka collection envelope and lot ticket included).
