Lot 216

1786 Vermont Landscape Type with VERMONTENSIUM Ryder-8 Rarity-4 PCGS graded F15. Light to medium chocolate brown with slightly darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. Well centered on an above average planchet for a landscape type, free of obvious planchet voids or other defects. The only marks are some tiny chips at the rim over the A in STELLA. There are traces of old dirt in protected areas and this piece has the look of a copper that has never been rubbed, brushed, or messed with in any way. An attractive, wholly original example of the scarcest VERMONTENSIUM landscape variety in the Vermont series. The date is clear, the repunching on the 1 is obvious, and the legends are complete. The attribution and Royse-Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Listed on page 74 in the "Redbook." Estimate Value $800 - UP
Ex John Royse Collection, Stack's Bowers 11/16/2012:6090 (where misattributed as the more common Ryder-7 variety)-John Kraljevich (JK Americana) 12/1/2012-Gene Heard Collection (includes the Royse collection envelope and lot ticket).

Realized $1,116
