Lot 187

1839 N-3 R1 Head of 1838 PCGS graded MS65 Brown. Lustrous medium steel brown with 15% of the mint color remaining visible on both sides. Satiny mint frost covers this cent and the eye appeal is excellent. The only defects are a minor planchet flake on the bust tip and another slightly larger one on the rim under the wreath ribbon loop (both as struck). Otherwise this cent is choice in every respect. LDS with a depression in the field between star 1 and the throat and a fine die crack that meanders from the nose through the bust and weakly to the 3 in the date. The outer berry under AM in AMERICA is gone thanks to die wear. Our grade is MS62. The attribution and Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 4 finer, 3 in 66, 1 in 66+ for the variety. PCGS #37228. Estimate Value $3,000 - UP
Ex Tom Reynolds 1987-Manuel Ahumada Collection.

Realized $3,525
