Lot 61

1802/0 C-2 R3 Overdate 2 over 0, Reverse of 1803 F15+. Sharpness VF25 and the eye appeal is quite nice, especially for an 1802 half cent, but there are a few contact marks. The notable ones are a scuff of fine hairline scratches in the field before the bust, a dull scratch from AT in STATES down to the U in UNITED, and a dull dent between HA in HALF and CE in CENT. All the marks are old and blend perfectly into the very attractive glossy light to medium chocolate brown toning. Nicely struck LDS, Manley state 5.0, with traces of die rust on both sides and a clearly defined rim cud break from the second A in AMERICA to below the second 0 in the denominator. This example is superior to the Manley plate coin for the late die state and it comes with an excellent provenance. Weight 86.5 grains.
Estimated Value $2,000-UP.
