Lot 1385

1901. NGC graded AU-58. CAC Approved. Original toning on both sides. Scarce Philadelphia Mint date in high grade. Most, it seems, found their way into circulation. It may be also the case that the 1901-P issue, if it had been stored in Treasury vaults, went into the melting pots along with tens of millions of other silver dollars pursuant to the Pittman Act of 1918. The resulting silver was shipped to England to stem a silver shortage and panic in Britain's colony, India (PCGS # 7272) .
Estimated Value $800 - 850.

Realized $969
