Lot 1112

1926-D. PCGS graded MS-64 Full Head PQ. CAC Approved. Housed in an Old Green Holder. A hint of gold tone. A coin that should be regraded as there is every reason to believe it can earn a 65 grade for its billowy luster and instant eye-appeal. We have handled precious few '26-D Quarters that are as sharply struck as the coin in this lot. Specialists in this series are well aware of the striking problems that dog this D-mint issue. In fact, softness of detail is so extreme for most examples that, if they are submitted for third-party certification at all, such coins are severely limited as to the grade that they can obtain. The present example, however, possesses all of the attributes that one should demand for the Full Head Choice Mint State 64 PQ level. To start with the strike, it is overall sharp in appearance. In fact, those few isolated design elements that are not sharp are nevertheless boldly defined. As for this coin's other attributes, the luster is full and satiny, and the surfaces are free of outwardly bothersome abrasions. Pop 31; 31 finer, 19 in 65, 9 in 66, 3 in 66+ (PCGS # 5757) .
Estimated Value $5,000-UP.
