1795 C-4 R3 Punctuated Date, Plain Edge AG3. Flipover Double Strike. Sharpness VG8 but banged up a bit and plugged at BE in LIBERTY. Both BE and the fraction have been expertly reengraved and you could easily miss the fact that this piece was plugged. No corrosion or verdigris, and the color is a glossy reddish chocolate brown. What makes this piece special is that it was struck two times, and the planchet was flipped over between those impressions. The first strike was about 10% off center while the second was centered. Clear evidence of the initial strike shows on both sides, including "ES" of STATES at the 1 in the date, "OF" in the field under the cap, and "AME" on the cap. Removed from an ANACS slab graded "Fine Details Net VG8, Damaged" with no mention of having been plugged. The "Flipover Dbl Struck" feature is also noted on the ANACS label. Weight 80.4 grains.
Estimated Value $400-UP.

Realized $345
