1893-CC. PCGS graded MS-63 PQ. CAC Approved. Frosty and mostly white. A nice example.
After the 1889-CC and 1879-CC, the 1893-CC is the most elusive Morgan Dollar from the Carson City Mint. It is also a historically significant coin as the final Silver Dollar produced at the fabled Nevada branch mint--a fact that only enhances its popularity among specialists. This is an issue that is not represented by quantities of Uncirculated survivors in today's hobby. On the contrary, when Mint State coins are available, it will usually be one at a time, and the typical representative is noticeably bagmarked and confined to the MS60-MS62 grade range. A very choice coin.
When President Grover Cleveland was sworn in to his second term in office in early 1893, he told the Treasury Department to close the Carson Mint (as a budget cutting measure). The short history of this illustrious Western minting facility is peppered with stories of great rarities coming off the coining presses (PCGS # 7222) .
